When any of us have an operation, waking up under the effects of the anaesthetic can be a confusing, upsetting experience. Even as adults who understand what has happened there is still an element of fear and confusion.
So imagine how it must feel as a dog when you don’t have that knowledge and understanding, when you wake up feeling horrible, and in pain and surrounded by people whom you have never seen before. That must be really scary. That’s what happened to this dog, who was obviously really frightened and starting to panic. Realising what was happening Surgical Assistant Dennis Moses picked the dog up, took him somewhere quiet and smothered him with affection. When another volunteer at the centre saw what was happening she was so moved she recorded the gesture for us all to witness.
