The life of a soldier can be difficult, and that is also true of military dogs. At times, they are asked to make the ultimate sacrifice for their trainer or for the unit. Layka is such a special dog and her sacrifice cost her a leg and 7 hours of surgery but it saved the lives of several people on her team.
What many people don’t realize is that military dogs are often put into dangerous situations, those that are far more dangerous than an average soldier. Now that Layka has paid the price she has paid, she was adopted by her handler and will spend the rest of her life in his home.
