In many ways, I feel that dogs are actually a lot more intelligent than us humans. If you sit down and think about things, they actually understand the words we say, whereas we have absolutely no idea what each bark actually means. We may be able to guess the overall meaning but if they were to just bark one or two words to us, we simply wouldn’t know what they were saying, regardless of what anyone would have you believe.
For those currently scoffing at my suggestion, I would invite you to watch the following video. Probably most dogs biggest weakness is their obsession with food, and treats in particular. After all, that’s how most dogs are trained, with the use of treats as a reward. So for a dog to refuse a treat when he hears a specific word is pretty clever. The owner offers the dog a treat and tells him it’s from different people. Daddy and grandad feature prominently. But then he is offered a treat from someone else and the dog totally refuses to eat it. He even looks into the camera with his big eyes and gives a look, as if to say, do I look that dumb.
