Retrievers get their name from the fact that they love bringing items back and it was just as well for these two dogs that their friend was around. Whilst out by the river the canoe that their owners had used to get there got dislodged and started to float out into the river.
For reasons best known to the dogs themselves, two of the dogs panicked and jumped into the canoe, giving it more momentum and pushing it further out into the current. The dogs in the boat now realise the peril they have placed themselves in and start whimpering and calling for help. This is the moment our hero was born for. Without any thought for his own safety, he dives out into the water swimming against the current and moves towards the canoe.
