When a dog has puppies it is essential that she gets to spend roughly the first 8 to 12 weeks with the puppies as a family prior to them being split up. This is both beneficial and essential to the puppies and the mother. The dog in this story was brought along with another to an animal shelter in Novato California. Both dogs were nervous and terrified. After the customary vet inspection, it was discovered that one of the dogs had very recently become a mother and warning flags were raised about the puppies.
After some detective work, the shelter was able to track down the puppies who were found living in atrocious conditions, and after some persuasion were able to convince the owner to surrender the puppies to the shelters care. This video shows the very scared and defensive mum being reintroduced to her puppies again, and the total change in demeanor and reduction of stress to the dog once she realises she has her babies back.
This demonstrates the awful pain and suffering the mother had gone through in being separated from her babies. Once the puppies are old enough to safely leave their mum the Marin Humane Society will ensure they are rehomed with a loving family. All is well that ends well.
